Bishop Melchisedek

Archimandrite Melchisedek consecrated bishop of Pittsburgh and Western Pennsylvania

The Orthodox Chapel of the Holy Spirit in Beavertown will hold a ceremony marking the official start of its building program at its property on Kern Road across from the Conestoga plant, at 11 a.m. Saturday, June 7.

The traditional Cross-planting ceremony will follow a Liturgy at 9 a.m. at the site of its planned new church in Beavertown (in the event of rain, at the current house church location at 350 Old Orchard Dr., Beavertown).

Archbishop Melchisedek Pleska of Pittsburgh will preside both at the Liturgy and at the Cross-planting ceremony.

The Archbishop will be in Beavertown during his trip to State College, where he will also lead services Saturday evening and Sunday for Holy Trinity Orthodox Church there. The Beavertown Chapel is a mission of Holy Trinity Parish, which started in 2009. Land for its building was bought in 2012.

Archbishop Melchisedek will be assisted in the ceremonies in Beavertown by clergy from the area including Archpriest John Reeves, Rector of Holy Trinity Parish, Priest Basil Biberdorf, priest assigned to the Chapel, and Deacon David Smith of Beavertown.

All are welcome to the Liturgy and Cross-planting.
